been mentioned in both Shi`i and Sunni hadith collections. The author of the present paper vies this story only from Shi`a perspective. He first investigates the document or chain of transmitters of these traditions and then presents views of opponents and proponents in order to criticize the contents of these traditions. He finally concludes that in the light of present evidences and theological proofs, the contents of these traditions are not acceptable.

Role of Ghulat in Introducing Jabir al-Ju'fi as a Ghali

Abbas Ahmadvand
Saeed Tavoosi Masroor

Jabir bn Yazid al-Ju'fi (٥٠-١٢٨ A.H.) the famous companion of Imam Baqir and Imam Sadiq, peace be upon them. In spite of his adherence to the school of the Prophet's Household, peace be upon them, his attention to the inner meaning of verses of the Holy Quran and some hadiths attributed to him made ghulat assume him as their forerunner and remember him as a man who was aware of Infallible Imams' divine knowledge and spiritual status. Ghalis misused his name and character. That is why some know him as a semi-ghali and some explicitly introduce as ghali. Most of these traditions are related from Jabir al-Ju'fi by Nusayriyyah. But it is now by no means possible to ascertain whether Jabir himself was the author of these traditions or whether these were attached to his name by the later ghulat and were circulated in the Imamate circles.

Key Words: Jabir Ju`fi, Imamite Shi`a, Extremism, Extremists, Nusayriyya, Rijal Scholars.

A Critical Review of a Hadith: Hidden Treasure

Mahdi Arianfar
Hasan Taqizadeh

In Islamic texts especially those of mysticism and philosophy, there is a Qudsi hadith which says: ‘I was a hidden treasure, and I wished to be known, so I created a creation (mankind), then made Myself known to them, and they recognized Me.’ This hadith has been widely found in different occasions such as philosophy of creation and etc.

This hadith can be viewed through a few approaches: ١- questions concerning the content of this hadith which is answered through philosophical, theological and mystical approach; ٢- its impact on theoretical mysticism and also its historical development; ٣- `Ilm al-Hadith (Science of Hadith) approach that is so far there is no independent research in this regard
