بودهايم چگونه برخى بدون كسب مجوّز، بذرهاى تراريخته را ٢٠ سال پيش با فناورى كهنه و ناقص آن زمان به مزارع بردند و كشت كردند و هماكنون نيز در حال توسعه آن هستند و به دليل ضعف قانونى، نظارتى و صدور مجوّز، دارند به كار خود ادامه مىدهند. پس از كجا بايد اطمينان حاصل كرد اين فناورى هم در سالهاى آينده، در مراكز تحقيقاتى و پزشكى و نازايى كشور توسعه نيابد؟
دقّت داشته باشيم كه آكادمى علوم آمريكا، همان مؤسّسهاى است كه به شدّت از محصولات تراريخته كشاورزى دفاع كرده و متأسّفانه به شدّت تحت تأثير سرمايهداران و تاجران و كمپانىهاى تراريخته است و مراقب باشيم كه نظرات آنها نمىتواند براى ما ملاك عمل باشد. ٨
پس بهتر و عاقلانهتر است تا خطرات احتمالى اين نوع فناورىهاى نوظهور مشخّص نشده و همچنانكه تاكنون دستكارى ژنى سلّولهاى جنينى و جنسى ممنوع بوده است، اين نوع بحثها در محيطهاى علمى و دانشگاهى، به طور جدّى از نظر جنبههاى ايمنى زيستى، امنيت زيستى، اخلاق زيستى، اخلاق پزشكى و جنبههاى حقوقى و اخلاقى، مورد بحث و تحقيق قرار گيرد و در حوزه تحقيقاتى و آزمايشگاهى، دانشمندان كشور در اخذ دانش و فناورىهاى نوين، لحظهاى غفلت نكنند تا در حوزه علم و فناورى دچار عقبماندگى نشويم؛ امّا از نظر كاربرد فعلًا دست نگه داشته شود تا اطمينان لازم كسب شود.
