Interaction of Hadith with Human Sciences: Imam Sadiq's Viewpoints

The author of the present paper, first makes a critical analysis of two existing process in interaction between hadith and human sciences: compositive and symmetric statement-making. He then defines and categorizes and offers a third process named as contributive stepwise discourse. Modus operandi of this process are as follows: possibility, paving the way of discourse, hypothesis-making based on hadith data, validity of attribution, micro-processing instead of theorizing, and hypothesis-testing. He deals with them all in first part of this paper. In second part, he points to three obstacles to this process and talks about the sanctification of religious texts and problem of criticizing them, unfamiliarity with methods of modern sciences, and the way of exit. In some parts, he gives some examples of this process originating from psychology and physiology.

Key Words: Hadith, Human Sciences, Psychology, Medical Traditions, Hypothesis-making.

An Investigation of Ghiyath bn Kallub al-Bajali’s Religion

Since early days of hadith scholarship,Shiite rijal scholars have made efforts to know the hadith reporters’ religion and their reliability due to the influence of their approach to hadith transmission. Sometimes, we met some hadith reports while describing the characteristics of hadith reporters which are difficult to understand. One of them is to consider Ghiyath bn Kallub al-Bajali as `ammi (Sunni). On the other hand different sorts of information from books such as Najashi’s fihrist, and Shaykh Tusi’s Fihrist in description of hadith reporters have been neglected. In this study, the auther tries to reject this claim that Ghiyath bn Kallub al-Bajali is an `ammi and prove that he is a Shia. To do so, he also takes a look at some rijal books of the people of Sunnah and investigates their views about him.

Key Words: Ghiyath bn Kallub al-Bajali, Shaykh Tusi, Uddat al-Usul, Najashi’s Chain of Transmission.

Takhrij and Its Rules

Takhrij is an important and widely-used knowledge among hadith scholars. There is not any significant difference between Shia and Sunni scholars regarding the principles and rules of this knowledge. Unfortunately some today's scholars have disregarded the rules of this knowledge and utilized an incorrect and non-technical method while studying hadith books. The author of this paper tries to present the method of Shaykh Hurr `Amili in Wasaail al-Shia as an example, make a comparison between it and some works of today's scholars (like al-Kafi which has been recently edited and published), and remind us of the correct rules and principles of this knowledge.

Key Words: Finding the Source of a Hadith, Shaykh Hurr `Amili, Wasaail al-Shia, al-Kafi, Basair al-Darajat.

A New Approach to Structure of Hadith Sciences

Since hadith is of high status in the galaxy of Islamic doctrines, many research studies have been conducted on it and some sciences have been brought about thereby. Some of these sciences deal with the matters concerning the issuance of hadith, some with the matters concerning hadith scholarship, and some with the practical aspect of hadith. There is also a fourth group which deals with a variety of issues without being dedicated to any special discipline but in relation with three above-mentioned disciplines. Hence it is necessary to make a clarification of the coherence and relationship between these sciences in order to determine the status of each of them in the galaxy of hadith sciences on the one hand, and the importance of that science on the other hand. This is that which we call the structure or geometry of hadith sciences. A variety of structures has been presented in this field. The author of the present paper tries to make an analysis of these structures and finally present a coherent structure in harmony with the principles of prominent Shii hadith scholars in this regard.

Key Words: Hadith Structure, Hadith Sciences, Structure, Geometry of Hadith.

Judgment of the Infallible Judges concerning Huduth and Qidam

The question of huduth (non-eternity) and qidam (eternity) is one of most fundamental discussions concerning the principles of beliefs which has been well thought-out by scholars and brought about different views and attitudes. The importance of this question and different attitudes toward it made the author to search for the right answer and discover the truth through the words of Infallible Imams, peace be upon them. It seems that the Infallible Judges hold that everything other than Allah is haadith, that is, it did not exist and was created.

Key Words: Eternity, Non-Eternity (ex-nihilo), Everything Other Than Allah, Timelessness, Final Cause, Creato Ex Nihilo, Knowledge, Volition.

A Reconsideration of Rijali Status of Ishaq bn `Ammar

Differentiation of commonalities and union of differences are among the most important and extensive discussions of the knowledge of rijal. It is so important that scientific power of a rejali scholar is measured by his knowledge of differentiation of commonalities and union of differences. Mushtarakat or commonalities in the knowledge of rijal are the same as literal common words in the knowledge of principles of jurisprudence. Mukhtalafat or differences are the same as traduf (synonymity).

Ishaq bn `Ammar is one of those hadith reporters who are the center of many scientific debates. Many believe that he is one in different names and places so they discuss about his identity within the union of differences and some believe that this name belong to many so they discuss about them within differentiation of commonalities. Due to the importance of this issue and its result which is used by the conflict of reasons, the author of this paper, gives an account of the raised discussions about him and views the existing opinions in this regard as well as their evidences. Since he is regarded as reliable by every three theories, the author views him from two perspectives: Numerousness and religion.

Key Words: Differentiation of Commonalities, Union of Differences, Ishaq bn `Ammar, Fatahiya, Imami Hadith Reporter, Shiite Hadith Families.
