احتمال زيادى دارد كه هرگونه مذاكرات مستقيم ميان ايران و آمريكا در مورد مسائلى، همچون بحث هستهاى به موفّقيت انجامد؛ امّا به شرط آنكه نخست، مقامات ديپلماتيك وارد بحث شده، سپس سطح مذاكرات به وزارت امور خارجه رسيده و در آخر، به ملاقات سران دو كشور بيانجامد.[١]
تصوير وى نزد عموم
كيسينجر در دوران اوج خود، در ميان عموم مردم فردى شناخته شده بود. او همچنين در واشينگتن نيز به خاطر بذلهگويىاش معروف بود؛ به عنوان مثال، در ضيافت ساليانه شامى كه كنگره براى باشگاه مطبوعات واشينگتن ترتيب مىدهد، كيسنجر شهرتش را به تمسخر گرفت و خود را يك هوسران مخفى ناميد. از وى نقل شده كه گفته است: قدرت، بهترين داروى تقويت جنسى است.[٢]
در فيلم و تلويزيون
كيسينجر از رسانهها و گفتوگو در شبكههاى تلويزيونى دورى مىجويد. اخيراً وى مصاحبه كوتاهى با تهيّهكنندگان يك مستند داشته است. اين مستند، «كانالهاى مخفيانه بهاى صلح» نام دارد و به سنگ بناى معاهده صلح مصر و اسرائيل در سال ١٩٧٩ م. مىپردازد.[٣] در اين فيلم يك كيسينجر صاف و ساده را مىبينيم كه از احساس خود در خصوص اينكه در سال ١٩٧٣ م. چقدر نزديك بود جنگى هستهاى درگيرد، سخن مىگويد؛ يعنى همان زمان كه جنگ يوم كيپور از سوى مصر و سوريه عليه اسرائيل و در مناطقى كه اسرائيل اشغال كرده بود، آغاز شد و در نهايت نيز به جنگ شش روزه منتهى گرديد.
مخالفتها با وى
كريستوفر هيچنز، روزنامهنگار و نويسنده آمريكايى، بريتانيايى به شدّت منتقد كيسينجر است. وى در كتاب «محاكمه هنرى كيسينجر» مىنويسد: كيسينجر بايد به خاطر جنايات جنگى، جنايت عليه بشريت، زير پا گذاردن قوانين بين المللى شامل قتل، آدمربايى و شكنجه، تحت پيگرد قرار گيرد.[٤]،[٥]،[٦]
