البيان (The Prolegomena To The Quran) - الخوئي، السيد ابوالقاسم - الصفحة ٩٤

transmitted about him, of which the most authentic is the one which says that he stud‌ ied the Quran with al-Mughira"; however, adds Ibn al-Jazari, some narratives quote him as saying that "he did not know with whom he studied the recitation."٧ He was born in the year ٨ A.H. (٦٢٩ CE), and he died in ١١٨ A.H. (٧٣٦ CE).
AbdAllah b. Amir had two transmitters who learned his reading of the Quran from intermediary authorities. These [transmitters] were Hisham and Ibn Dhakwan.
As for Hisham, his full name was Ibn Ammar b. Nu ayr
the reading of the Quran by presenting it to Ayyub b. Tamim. According to Yal)ya b. MuIn, Hisham was reliable; according to al-NasaI, he was acceptable. Al‌ Daraqutni says, "He was truthful and highly esteemed."٨ He was born in the year
١٥٣ A.H. (٧٧٠ c.E.), and he died in the year ٢٤٥ (٨٥٩ c.E.).
According to al-Ajuri, who reported on the authority of Abu Dawud, "Abu Ayyub"-that is, Sulayman b. Abd al-Ral)man-"was better than him [Hisham]. Hisham transmitted four hundred traditions, supported by chains of transmission which were baseless." Ibn Wara says, "For a long time I intended to refrain from studying the tradition with Hisham, because he used to charge money for relating it."Salil) b. Mul)arnmad reports that Hisham "used to take from me the tradition [free of charge], but would not relate a tradition without being paid.... Al-Marwazi re‌ ports that Al)mad [b. I:Ianbal] mentioned Hisham, saying that he was confused and insignificant. Al)mad went on to relate a specific example of Hishams reading, of which he disapproved to the extent that he declared that anyone who prays behind him, he should repeat the prayer."٩
As for those who transmitted the reading of the Quran on his authority, the sources are in disagreement. Thus, one should refer to Tabaqat al-Qurra and other such sources.
As for Ibn Dhakwan, his full name was Abd Allah b. Al)mad b. Bashir. He was also known as Bashir b. Dhakwan. He studied the Quran by presenting it to Ayyub b. Tamim. According to Abu Amr al-l:lafi,
latter came to Damascus. He was born on the day of Ashura [١٠ Mul)arram] in the
year ١٧٣ A.H. (٧٨٩ c.E.), and he died in the year ٢٤٢ (٨٥٦ c.E.). ١٠
Concerning those who transmitted the reading of the Quran on his authority, none of them are known.

Ibn KathTr ai-MakkT

His full name was AbdAllah b. Kathir b. Amr b. AbdAllah b. AbdAllah b. Zadhan b. Frri١zan b. Hurmuz al-Makki al-Darr; [he was] of Persian origin. According toKitab al-Taysfr, he acquired the reading of the Quran by presenting it to AbdAllah b. al‌ Saib. This opinion has been accepted as definitive by al-I:IafiAbu Amr al-Dani and others. However, he was declared weak by al-l:lafiAbu al-Ala al-Hamadani, who said, "He is not known among us." ١١ Ibn Kathir also presented his reading [for authoritative approval] to Mujahid b. Jabr and Darbas, the client of AbdAllah b.
Abbas. He was born in Mekka in ٤٥ A.H. (٦٦٥ c.E.) and died in ١٢٠ A.H. (٧٣٨ c.E.).
Ali b. al-Mudayni regarded him as reliable, and so did Ibn Sad. Abu Amr al-Dani
