Yaqob b. ls aq

His full name was Yaqub b. IsJ:!aq b. Zayd b. AbdAllah AbU MuJ:!ammad al-I:IaQrarru; [he was] a client of the Banil f:IaQram, and originally from Basra. According to Ibn al-Jazari, he was one of the ten readers [of the Quran]. Yaqilb has provided the names of the teachers with whom he studied the reading. For a year and a half, he learned [it] from Salam, and then he presented it to Shihab b. Shanfara in five days. Shihab had received the reading from Maslama b. MuJ:!arib al-Muharbi in nine days; Maslama had learned it from Abil al-Aswad al-Duali, who had received it from the Imam Ali (peace be upon him). Yaqilb died in the month ofDhil al-f:ajjah, ٢٠٥ A.H. (٨٢٠c.E.), at the age of eighty-eight.٤٥ Both AJ:!mad b. f:Ianbal and Abu f:Iatim regarded him as honest, and Ibn f:Iayyan has reckoned him among the reliable transmitters. However, according to Ibn Sad, he was not regarded as definitively trustworthy by the scholars [of biographical dictionaries].٤٦
Two persons transmitted the reading from Yaqub. They were Ruways and RilJ:!. As for Ruways, his full name was MuJ:!ammad b. al-Mutawakkil Abu AbdAllah

Al-Dani considers him one of the most intelligent of Yaqilbs associates. MuJ:!ammad b. Hariln al-Tammar and the Imam Abu Abd Allah al-Zubayr b. AJ:!mad al-Zubayri al-ShafiI acquired the reading from Ruways by presenting [reading aloud] it to him for critical confir‌ mation. He died in the year ٣٣٨ A.H. (٩٤٩ C.E.)Y
